If a minor is recieving social security for a deceased parent and moves out/becomes emancipated, what happens?

My question is this:

If a minor is recieving social security for having a deceased parent and decides to move out before 18 or get emancipated, can he recieve the money instead of his guardian? Obviously they shouldn't continue to get the money if he isn't living with them, but can he recieve it himself? If a minor is recieving social security for a deceased parent and moves out/becomes emancipated, what happens?
Sounds as if the US law is different - I think that in the UK the guardian would be receiving the money to cover their costs in keeping you.If a minor is recieving social security for a deceased parent and moves out/becomes emancipated, what happens?
You need legal consul here. This is a complicated situation above and beyond the expertise of the Y.A. Call your local SS Dept. and ask to speak to someone who has knowledge of this type of Benefit.
I agree with Dusty Titus on this one. You really need to seek proper legal advice. The question you posed is certainly a difficult one and also without having a clear and complete statement of facts it's hard to give you accurate advice.

If you are in the UK you can get Legal Assistance for free as you are still a minor.

There are many Legal Aid offices in the UK.

You can also call the Citizens Advice to get them to give you a complete list of Solicitors in your area - They may also be able to provide you with initial advice on the situation.
