Is there a child abduction on record where a Criminal Profiler has ever leaned toward a parent or step-parent?

erroneously? I know it happens many times with regular police , but since Profilers are usually always dead right - I wonder if there was a rare instance where a profiler made an error?

Also, why aren't Criminal Profilers used every time a child goes missing? Is there a child abduction on record where a Criminal Profiler has ever leaned toward a parent or step-parent?
Profilers are usually dead right? Stop watching TV or reading the self serving books some of the profilers write.

The only thing dead about profilers mistakes are the victims that might not have been if they were always correct.

Profiling is even more of an art than most detective work.

When you go to profiling seminars and instruction classes the first thing they all tell the experienced cops there is that they, the cops, are better profilers than the people at the behavioral science unit. The BHU people just concentrate on the one thing and try hard to codify what cops do naturally.

Rant done.

To answer your question I had a case where the pros from Quantico said it was the caregiver (grandparent, mother and father long gone). We knew they were wrong but the bosses made us follow the profilers' lead. Wrong all the way.

In another case, from a suburb of St. Louis, the profilers said it was not the parent.

The local cops said it was, proved it, and the father confessed with details.

Why don't profilers come in on every case? You have to ask them. In kidnappings they do not need to be asked by the locals for help.

In all other intrastate cases the BHU people do have to be asked for help before they can come in.

A number of larger departments and states have had BSU trained officers but they rarely need to be used. I

In the huge majority of cases missing children cases are easy to solve. Is there a child abduction on record where a Criminal Profiler has ever leaned toward a parent or step-parent?
Seems to me a lot of attention was focused on Elizabeth Smart's parents.

Also, I know it wasn't a kidnapping, but wasn't the family hounded even long after some unknown male's DNA was found on JonBenet's underwear?
There have been varies cases where parents were suspected of being involved in kidnapping..but later ruled out to lack of any solid evidence or DNA evidence leading to them..
